I’ll be flying up to Toronto for North By Northeast to moderate a panel on Friday, June 13.

I don’t know the exact name of the panel yet but it will be about festival programmers and how they find and book new bands. There are some great people on the panel from South By Southwest, Hillside Festival, CMJ, and Eurosonic. Should be pretty interesting so come by to check it out. You can find more info about NXNE on their website. Oh, did I mention that NXNE booked 500 (that’s FIVE HUNDRED) bands from Sonicbids this year? Wow.

Also, we are working on putting together a little get together for Sonicbids members and myself during lunch on June 13th. If you plan to be in Toronto, it would be great to catch up. Stay tuned for more details.

Dear Panos;

I’m guessing that you may need to check the ‘brew’ that you are drinking or maybe NXNE needs to update their website a lot more frequently?
Since you know how unhappy many of your artists are with your site I checked on your math.
Only 350 bands are listed as playing the show total; someone’s counting may be malfunctioning, unless of course, you are using your hits trackers. 500 sonic bids bands booked?

Secondly- are any of these actually paying performances that you will be listing as gigs? (henceforth the word booked?)
Many of us are concerned that Sonic Bids may be confusing the words “promotional opportunity” with gigs, or sonic gigs.

Hi Panos,

That sounds like a great panel! Wish I could be there.

Hey! I’m a Sonicbids member and I’ll be on a UMAC (Urban Music Association of Canada) panel @12 noon for NXNE on Sat June 14 – me and a bunch of other independent artists speaking about touring, and maintaining a career, as an urban music artist in Canada. Come by and check it out!
