I’ve just spent the past hour playing around with the Deadmau5 app. I love it.

It comes pre-loaded with 10 new tracks that you can interact with through all kinds of simple but fun goodies: Loop, Filter, Flange and Delay effects; cross fading between tracks; speed control, etc.deadmau5

I docked my iPhone to my iPod Bose speaker base at home and for a while there I thought I was DJing in some underground club in Amsterdam or whatever. I totally lost track of time.

Talk about this being the future:

  • All the blogosphere buzz about the app made me curious. No MTV or radio or NY Times or Rolling Stone involved here in introducing me to Deadmau5 (who admittedly I heard by name before but that’s about it);
  • I actually forked over $3 to buy this;
  • It totally engaged me for an hour. Not in a passive, music-in-the-background way but in an interactive, stare-at-your-iPhone-for-an-hour way;
  • I’m about the download more Deadmau5 music;
  • I just checked out his tour schedule on Last.fm (he’s in Australia);
  • I’m here talking about it;

Proof that good, innovative ideas always find their way to an audience who’ll happily fund them. The future is about conversations, not monologues.
